Professional Internship Program

Welcome!

Arizona Theatre Company is dedicated to our professional internship program. We offer undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to bridge the gap between the worlds of academia and professional theatre. We have fantastic plans for our 46th season. As ever, we have a diversity of produced work and a variety of education and learning experiences lined up for the season. We would love to welcome you to be a part of our family.

We support the ongoing learning of two or three full-time professional interns per year. Each internship is created with the specific individual in mind, and is built around their passions, abilities, and their educational goals. We provide our interns with a solid and inclusive professional experience within our company that serves as a launching pad for their future career.

“Thus far, only halfway through my artistic internship at Arizona Theatre Company, I can honestly say it is the single most valuable educational experience of my life. ATC has allowed me to explore aspects of the theatre world and of myself that I didn’t even know existed, and I find my motivation and passion continuously fueled, analyzed, and encouraged. I have found here an amazing openness that allows me to participate, to learn, to question, to fail, and to try again…supported by people who welcome intellectual and artistic collaboration and encourage all the questions I can pull out of my mind.”
Katherine Monberg, Artistic Intern 2011-2012

At Arizona Theatre Company, furthering education and the nurturing of talent are a central part of why we exist. We are looking for people with extraordinary talent and potential to join us next season. You must currently still be enrolled as a full-time student or have recently graduated from a university program to apply.

Internship Positions

Artistic
As artistic intern you would assist the Associate Artistic and Artistic Directors with administrative duties, including communicating with guest artists, facilitating auditions, and responding to information requests, and you would be present in rehearsals as assistant to the director for multiple main stage shows in our season. In addition to those responsibilities you would also offer assistance to the literary and education departments, reading play submissions, contributing to play guides, and supporting us with school workshops and outreach. Applicants for this position should be creative, organized, have great initiative and excellent communication skills. This internship is offered as a full-time position only.

Education
Education interns are a vital part of the education team, communicating with Arizona educators, assisting with the planning and delivery of school workshops, coordinating pre and post show discussions, as well as offering other administrative support and contributing their thinking to the ongoing development of our education programs. Applicants for this position preferably have a background in education, and have great communication and organizational skills. This internship is offered as a full or part time position.

Stage or Production Management
As a stage management intern you will work closely with Equity stage managers, shadowing and assisting with all their duties in rehearsal and performance.

As production management intern your role would be to assist the Production Manager with day to day logistical planning, communicating with technical and artistic staff, and assisting with administrative duties such as expense coding and production meeting minutes.

In both internships you will have some opportunities throughout the season to work as part of the technical crew. Roles can vary from show to show but all offer unique learning and participation experiences. Applicants for this position should have some prior experience in stage or production management. These internships are offered as full-time positions only.

Technical Theatre
Technical theatre internships are available in the following areas: Costumes, Props, Electrics/Lighting, Sound, Scenic Construction, and Scenic Painting. Intern placement and training is based on each candidate’s current knowledge and their desire to learn. Interns will gain skills in their desired area through hands-on experience and mentorship from their on-site supervisor. Applicants for these positions should have some prior experience in their field. These internships are offered as full or part time positions.
