Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have … Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps. A mind-blowing cast of four actors play over 150 characters in this fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure. The madness begins when mild-mannered Richard Hannay starts his evening at the theatre and ends the night with a dead body in his lap. Caught in maze of murder, espionage and flirtatious entanglements, our hero careens from the British music hall to the moors of Scotland and back to the London Palladium in search of a plausible alibi and the true identity of the killer. Broadway’s most intriguing, most riotous, most unmissable Tony-winning comedy smash proves that anything the movies can do, the theatre can do more hilariously!

From the Tony Award-winning director of Les Miserables and The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, and the creators of the Tony Award-nominated Jane Eyre, comes a heartwarming new musical based on a book beloved for generations. Daddy Long Legs tells of a young girl’s Cinderella journey into womanhood, as well as a confirmed bachelor’s awakening into love. Told through a series of letters between Jerusha Abbott, the oldest orphan at the John Greer Home, and Jervis Pendleton, her mysterious benefactor, Daddy Long Legs is a testament to the power of the written word and its ability to touch our hearts. An elegant and inventive romance, this award-winning musical love story has been lauded for its innocence, its sheer beauty, and its depth of emotion, not to mention its magnificent musical score. Winner of three prestigious Ovation Awards including Best Book, Best Score and Lead Actress in an Original Musical.

“Sticks and stones can break my bones” … but when Benjamin hits Henry at a nearby park, it starts two sets of parents on a comically explosive downhill slide from political correctness to character assassination. In this universally acclaimed new comedy by the author of Art, adults come together for a civilized evening of coffee, cake and conversation about their kids. But frayed nerves soon surface and the grownups begin to outdo their pugnacious children in bad behavior, disproving the notion that “words can never hurt me.” Winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play, God Of Carnage is a hilariously harrowing look at the minefield of modern marriage.

In the heart of London, behind the impassive facade of a windowless house, some of Europe’s most powerful men gather to play a game. The game is murder and this is The Suicide Club. But the Club has a new member: Sherlock Holmes—brilliant, perceptive, the greatest detective in the English-speaking world. Does Holmes wish to die? Will he have to kill? Can his old friend Dr. Watson save him? Or doesn't Holmes want to be saved? A beguiling World Premiere thriller commissioned by ATC from one of our favorite authors brings the famous detective alive in a tale full of mystery, twists and chills.

FIVE PERFORMANCES IN EACH CITY ONLY!
A Fresh Look at Shakespeare’s Masterpiece!

“The big scenes stir your blood … the small moments steal your heart” —The New York Times

Don’t miss your chance to see ‘the greatest love story ever told’ performed by two of America’s premier classical theatre companies. Shakespeare’s brilliance was never brighter and more piercing than in this tale of young lovers who triumph over, and then fall victim to, two families at war. This masterpiece lives anew for every generation and paints a vivid picture of the moment when the intoxication of youthful passion soars highest. In poetic language unmatched by any writer, the story of two star-crossed lovers has never been so gripping, or so dangerous, as in this stirring new production.

This is the second co-production of the renowned Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company, following on the success of last season's Henry V, which Christopher Isherwood of The New York Times called "Magnificent and unexpectedly moving."

Audiences laughed until they couldn't breathe when we produced this virtuoso quick-change horror story a dozen years ago. You asked for it—so we're bringing it all back to endanger your funny bone again! Two lightning-fast actors portray all the residents of the Mandacrest estate—as well as a host of vampires, werewolves, mummys and things that go bump in the night—who travel from the moors of England to the tombs of Egypt and back again. With Gothic plot turns thrown out like thumbtacks in the road, along with a stage full of outrageous sets and costumes, Irma Vep will keep you in stitches right up until the final twist. "The play will keep you laughing… and laughing hard." —The Arizona Republic

Hide the kiddies, cage the pets and stock up on the laughing gas...they're back!! Last season The Second City had Arizonans laughing so hard at ourselves we were gasping for breath (…or was that an ozone alert?), falling out of our chairs (…or were those the monsoon winds?) and splitting our sides (…or were we just left out in the sun too long?) From the comedy empire that gave us such comedy giants as Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and a whole slew of others, comes a new romp about the search for love in the digital age. Whether you’ve been poked, winked or tweeted--or even found love the (gasp) old-fashioned way—you’ll LOL at this hilarious look at the technology that was supposed to make our love lives so much easier, but only made it that much more complicated. This new comedy also includes some of the Second City trademark improvisation and audience interaction that is guaranteed to make you . Featuring a virtual appearance by Fred Willard!

In this lavish world premiere comedy, we discover what every Broadway star already knows – that the real drama on stage happens when the curtain is down. It is the late 1930s, and Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, the two most revered stars of the Broadway stage, have decided to perform Chekhov's masterpiece The Sea Gull. But first they must retreat to ‘investigate' the play at Ten Chimneys, their legendary Wisconsin estate, where they are surrounded by actors, family and hangers-on. When a young actress named Uta Hagen arrives, a romantic triangle begins to mirror the events in Chekhov's play about passion and art. The result is a funny, poignant and revealing look at the private lives of great artists who never really leave the stage. Ten Chimneys is a world premiere by Jeffrey Hatcher, award-winning author of ATC's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Ella and Tuesdays with Morrie.

But the Club has a new member: Sherlock Holmes--brilliant, perceptive, the greatest detective in the English-speaking world.

From the movie by Alfred Hitchcock

	Tucson: January 14 - February 4, 2012
Phoenix: February 9 - 26, 2012

	Tucson: February 25 - March 17, 2012
Phoenix: March 22 - April 8, 2012

Considered by many to be the Great American Novel, The Great Gatsby is at once titillating, fascinating and shocking in its portrayal of The Jazz Age that was soon to disappear from the American landscape. In this first authorized adaptation since 1926, Simon Levy brings the humor, irony, pathos and loveliness of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s American classic to the stage. Navigate the languid atmosphere of wealth and privilege with Nick Carraway as he observes the glittering, elaborate parties of his neighbor, the infamous and illusive Jay Gatsby. Part of ATC’s AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories series, The Great Gatsby’s sharp depiction of the “American Dream” resonates anew for each generation.

Master Abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, one of the most visionary artists of the 20th Century, has landed the commission of a lifetime, a series of murals for New York’s Four Seasons Restaurant. As he wrestles with the overwhelming task of creating multiple paintings on a grand scale, his new young assistant questions his views of art, creativity and commerce. What follows is a raw and provocative dialogue between master and novice, old guard and new guard exploring the question, “Is art meant to provoke, soothe or disturb?” Based on true events, Red is a searing portrait of an artist’s ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting. Red is the winner of six 2010 Tony Awards including Best Play, the most honored play of the Broadway season.

Talk about a stimulus package! From sagebrush to Sheriff Joe, from Green Valley to kokopelli– it’s time to batten down the barrel cactus because we’ve invited The Second City to Arizona to do a no-holds-barred world premiere comedy revue all about us. Famous for their hilarious sketch comedy and for their equally famous alumni (Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Gilda Radner and a whole slew of others), The Second City is turning their photo radar on the Grand Canyon State, and aiming their tee-shots at the land of prairie dogs and snow birds. We’re joining with this troupe of expert Chicago comedians to create a comedy about the special challenges of the high life in the low desert. It’s a guaranteed evening of recession-proof fun and high-mileage laughter - and which of us couldn’t use a lot more of that right now?

In the 1930s in a small tenement apartment in St. Louis, the Wingfield family awaits your visit. The mother, Amanda, lives in an illusion of recapturing her faded Southern Belle glory, her daughter Laura lives in a fantasy world of delicate glass figurines, and her son Tom dreams poetically of a world beyond the back stoop. When Tom brings home a Gentleman Caller to meet his sister, The Glass Menagerie weaves these lives into a heart-stopping dance of hopes pursued and dreams betrayed. Considered by many to be Tennessee Williams’ greatest play, The Glass Menagerie is an achingly beautiful story of longing and love that has touched generations of theatergoers with its sparkling, delicate radiance.

	AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American
"Come see me, Amir, there is a way to be good again…" A cry for help from an old friend in a distant land lies at the heart of this powerful story of friendship, betrayal and redemption newly adapted from the international best-selling novel. Based on one of the most beloved books of the last decade, The Kite Runner is told through the lives of two boys, Amir and Hassan, growing up in Afghanistan in the same household, but in two starkly different worlds. When the innocence of the boys’ childhood is confronted with the brutality of prejudice and hate, Amir begins a journey of self discovery and enlightenment that will take him far from his home and the demons of his youth. But fate, global politics and historical tragedy threaten his ability to make amends for his past. A bracing look at the modern world, The Kite Runner shows us the human face beneath the headline news.

What happened the night that Henry Jekyll died? Against the backdrop of Victorian London, the respected Dr. Jekyll has begun to display alarmingly erratic behavior toward his friends. At the same time, a brutal figure has begun to haunt the city’s streets, committing assault and murder under the cloak of darkness and the dismal London fog. In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll’s friend and lawyer confronts the monstrous Mr. Hyde in a series of Rashomon-like scenes that attempt to answer the puzzles at the heart of a tortured soul. Nationally renowned playwright and ATC favorite Jeffrey Hatcher (Compleat Female Stage Beauty, The Turn of the Screw, Work Song: Three Views of Frank Lloyd Wright, Tuesdays With Morrie, Ella) brings Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of inner demons and evil unchecked to ATC’s stage in a theatrically intense, intimate and fiendishly clever world premiere. This new spin on one of literature’s great masterpieces will be directed by ATC Artistic Director David Ira Goldstein, who previously directed the world premieres of two other Victorian classics for ATC, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure and Dracula.
