SCENE IN AMERICA
Join us for our 2018/2019 season, which offers you a kaleidoscope of reflections and explorations of the American experience, themes of literal and metaphorical family, and views of the world we live in. SCENE IN AMERICA, our season theme, resonates in each and every play!
We begin our 2018/2019 season with Native Gardens, Karen Zacarías’ hilarious new comedy that’s anything but neighborly. Then, our beloved Erma Bombeck comes home to Arizona in Allison and Margaret Engel’s Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End, a touching and hilarious romp celebrating the pioneering American icon. Next, we’re bringing you a quintessential American musical in a big way with The Music Man, directed by Artistic Director David Ivers and featuring exciting and innovative onstage community initiatives!
The spring half of the season begins with the return of acclaimed Fences director Lou Bellamy, who will be helming August Wilson’s timely Two Trains Running. Then, your heart will soar with American Mariachi, a heartwarming and hilarious new comedy about music’s power to heal and connect – complete with gorgeous live mariachi music! We’ll finish the season with an American premiere of Things I Know to Be True, a beautiful and painfully perceptive portrait of a family and the frictions that arise when grown-up children try to push beyond the confines of their loving parents’ expectations.
